Australia-Norway Relationship

On 2 December 2005 the Australian Minister for Family and Community Services, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Australia, signed a Social Security Agreement between Australia and Norway. The Agreement is expected to come into effect from 1 January 2007.
On 12 September 2007 a Convention for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and the prevention of fiscal evasion between Australia and Norway entered into force.
Norway and Australia also have an Agreement on Medical Treatment for Temporary Visitors. Under the agreement, Australians visiting Norway will receive subsidised treatment in the public health system covering hospital, medical care and prescription drugs. Norwegians visiting Australia will receive similar benefits under Medicare.
