Need a Break in the Sun?
Travel Australia on a Working Holiday Maker Visa
…in 2004-2005 more than 104,000 young people did just that!
What is a Working Holiday Maker Visa?
Australia's Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program allows you to have an extended holiday in Australia by supplementing your travel funds through short-term employment. Working holiday makers are permitted a stay of 12 months from date of initial entry to Australia regardless of whether or not you spend the whole period in Australia.
You can apply for the WHM visa if
- You are a Danish or Norwegian citizen
- You are between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive)
Work Conditions
Working holiday makers are permitted to do any kind of work. As the main purpose of the visit is for holiday and travel, work for longer than six months with any one employer is not allowed. Working holiday makers must be paid according to Australian award rates and conditions and there is usually plenty of casual work available.
Working holiday makers typically find work in bars and restaurants, in tourist resorts or with tour operators, or work on farms, but there are no restrictions on the type of work that can be done.
If you do seasonal work such as fruit picking or work on farms in rural Australia while on your fist WHM visa, you are able to apply for a second WHM visa! See further information about the requirements below.
Further Information and Application
You can get further information about the WHM visa and apply directly through the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website.
